Dr.
Ken Mahood was recently nominated and elected for the 9th
consecutive year to the 2010 edition of the prestigious Marquis'
"Who's Who in America." Dr. Mahood has over 40 years of
teaching experience. His education includes: B.S., music education
(King's College); M.M., music composition (Manhattan School of Music);
Ph.D., music theory (Metropolitan University of London, UK);
Ph.D., (Concordia College & University; and Ed.D., (American
University). He is a member of Music Educators National Conference
(MENC), The Piano Guild, American College of Musicians, and the
Virginia Music Teachers Association (VMTA). Dr. Mahood served 23
years as Associate Director of Music at Christian Fellowship Church,
Loudoun County's (VA) largest church. From 2005-2009, Ken was
appointed Director of Music Ministries for The Church of the
Valley in Strasburg, Virginia. It was during his tenure at that
position, Dr. Mahood received a License to Preach. Additionally,
he also appeared regularly over WAZT-TV as guest pianist. In
September of 2009, Dr. Mahood felt called to accept a position as
Pianist for the newly formed First Baptist Church of Stephen City,
Virginia.
In
the area of performance, Ken has a unique combination of performance
experience in the three major areas of music: classical (serious music),
sacred (gospel music), and popular music. Ken began his studies of
the piano at age 6 and organ at age 10. While in college he studied
piano under the protege of Artur Rubinstein and was the only
undergraduate student appointed conductor of the university orchestra.
Upon receiving dual Bachelor of Science degrees (Music Education and
Planetary Astronomy), Ken studied music composition with noted
American composer Aaron Copland. Dr. Mahood's achievements include
performances for Billy Graham Crusades, Ambassadors of the Organization
of American States (OAS), before members of the United Nations, Vice
President Nelson Rockefeller, and US President George Bush. In the area of
popular music, Ken has performed with Andy Williams, Pat Boone, and
many others.
Ken has
published numerous Devotionals which have been widely circulated through
various independent churches and via the Internet. Ken's music endeavors
have led to over 300 music arrangements for piano as well as over a dozen
compact discs featuring the musical artistry of Dr. Ken Mahood.
From
1980 until 1990, Dr. Mahood presented his own unique concert series,
"Chosen to Live." This highly acclaimed series featured Ken
performing significant classical and sacred works interwoven with his own
real life trauma as one of the longest successful kidney transplant recipients
over 37 years ago.
Ken
continues to teach keyboard and piano and is an 'off-campus' faculty
member of Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA). Dr. Mahood's
most recent project is an innovative new series
for teaching piano and keyboard using the advanced video capabilities
of the Internet. Through this series, Dr. Mahood has already been
helping folks across the United States and Canada discover the
joy of being able to create their own music. Lastly, Ken continues
to serve as a music consultant, and is active as pianist at First
Baptist Church in Stephen City, Virginia.
